The Hotel Brunelleschi Florence is situated in a small and tranquil piazza, hidden away just a few metres from Piazza del Duomo. Piazza Santa Elisabetta, which shares its name with the Hotel Brunelleschi’s Gourmet Restaurant, is also home to the oldest surviving medieval tower in Florence, the Torre della Pagliazza, which forms part of the hotel.

As if it weren’t enough having Florence’s oldest edifice actually inside the hotel complex, this fantastic location puts the Hotel Brunelleschi smack bang in the centre of the ancient renaissance city. The intricate web of alleyways and cobbled streets that stretches from the Duomo down to the River Arno is what we really consider to be the centre of the ancient city and this zone, as well as containing the city’s most famous buildings (namely Palazzo Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery) is also home to the finest shops in downtown Florence, not to mention bars and restaurants scattered between the gorgeous architecture, sculptures and other secret treasures.

A taxi from the airport should cost no more than about €20, from Santa Maria Novella Train Station about €14. If you haven’t much to carry, a stroll from the train station into the centre of town may be the ideal way to get your first taste of Florence – simply walk down Via Panzani, continue on Via de’Cerretani until you reach the Duomo. Walk around the Duomo anticlockwise and turn down Via dello Studio – a tiny yet charming back lane almost hidden by a bar on the main piazza. Zig-zag right then left and you’ll first come to Via Santa Elisabetta then Piazza Santa Elisabetta.
