The International Biennial of Contemporary Art in Florence, is this year into its ninth edition and it will be held from Saturday, November 30 to Sunday, December 8 at Palazzo da Basso. One of the peculiarities of this long-awaited event is to be among the few international manifestations dedicated to contemporary art truly independent and self-financed, where artists can actually live an aggregating and unique experience. The International Biennial was founded in 1997 and, among other things, it awards the prestigious prize “Lorenzo il Magnifico”, in collaboration with the city of Florence, a lifetime achievement award, addressed to people who have particularly distinguished themselves in the world of art, design and culture.
International Biennial of Contemporary Art in Florence, art in its cradle
The International Biennial this year is entitled “Ethics: DNA of art” and its project is appealed “New Florence Biennial”, just to emphasize the innovative nature of the manifestation. The mission of the annual event is to launch a debate on the relationship among art, aesthetics and ethics and on the role of the arts in the new millennium. A particular attention is thrown, first of all, to new generations of artists, that the International Biennial in Florence aims to grow and develop, with talented young people under 30 called to experiment any medium to find their own artistic way. But the exhibition is also a strong vehicle for the dissemination of the rich Florentine heritage. A goal also pursued with installations and performances by the artists in breath-taking scenery and location rich in history of the city.
