The Donatello exhibition, The Renaissance, in Florence from March 19 to July 31 2022, is one of the most anticipated artistic events in the city.
Housed at Palazzo Strozzi, it aims to reconstruct the very personal path of one of the most important artists of all time in comparison with masterpieces by Brunelleschi, Masaccio, Andrea Mantegna, Giovanni Bellini, Raphael and Michelangelo.
The exhibition allows you to admire over 130 works, with sculptures, paintings and drawings.
Many unique loans from almost sixty museums and institutions around the world.
Works Donatello Exhibition the Renaissance in Florence
Curated by the professor of Medieval Art History at the Scuola Normale di Pisa Francesco Caglioti, the exhibition allows us to understand how Donatello has marked the history of Western art.
An impact produced through new ideas and innovative figurative solutions that have helped to regenerate the same idea of sculpture, combining discoveries on the perspective and psychological dimension of art.
Among the works on display:
- David in marble and the Love-Attis of the Bargello;
- The Pergamum Spirits of the Prato Cathedral;
- The main altar bronzes of the Basilica di Sant’Antonio in Padua;
- Herod’s banquet of the Siena baptismal font (for the first time outside the original context);
- Doors of the Old Sacristy of San Lorenzo in Florence (for the first time outside the original context);
- Saint George and David in bronze.
Alongside these, here are masterpieces from the Louvre in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
The last sections illustrate the influence that Donatello had on the work of the Modern Manner artists.

The exhibition is hosted by Palazzo Strozzi and the Bargello National Museum.
It can be visited every day from 10.00 to 20.00.
Every Thursday the opening hours are from 10.00 to 23.00.

Each ticket will refer to the time slot chosen for the visit.
There are many ticket categories available to the public.
Reservation of date and time slot is mandatory for groups accompanied by a guide (from 3 to 20 people).
