During your stay in Florence we suggest you a trip to visit the Elliott Erwitt exhibition in San Gimignano. The small town, already known as the Manhattan of the Middle Age, it is worth for a visit to its amazing towers that make it special and original. All to this we must add the fascinating exhibition of one of the most famous photographers of the twentieth century: Elio Romano Erwitz. The exhibition is ongoing until 31st August 2014 and it is open every day from 9.30 to 19.00. The ticket costs € 7.50 and allows you to visit the entire gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art “Raffaele De Grada”, the Apothecary Santa Fina, the Archaeological Museum (all located in the same building) and a visit to the Torre Grossa, located in central square of San Gimignano.
The exhibition “Icons” shows pictures of the artist depicting famous celebrities from Hollywood, among which the beautiful Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly; particular moments of politics and contemporary history and political figures such as the photo showing Khrushchev and Nixon, or those that portray the Kennedys; most bizarre and funny pictures where the protagonists are dogs and their bosses, or even, ironic self-portraits of the same Erwitt. An exhibition not to miss, ending in a small room where you can watch a video/documentary about Elliott Erwitt.
And when you will arrive in Piazza del Duomo, with the same ticket of the exhibition, you can climb the Torre Grossa and enjoy the breath-taking view!
