Exhibition space dedicated to the famous fashion designer shoemaker Salvatore Ferragamo
We invite you to discover the Ferragamo Museum Florence during your next trip to the town. The museum opened in 1995 is dedicated to the history of Ferragamo company, to the life of its founder, Salvatore Ferragamo and his creations.
It is divided into seven rooms: the first two rooms are devoted to the history of Ferragamo company. They are exhibited in biennial exhibitions, in rotation, over 14,000 models of shoes preserved in the museum’s archive. The other rooms of the museum instead, they are intended for temporary exhibitions such as the tribute to Marilyn Monroe in 2012-2013 for fifty years after her death. The Florentine designer created especially for her “cleavage” models with high heels, in many colours and materials.
Moreover, you will find models that demonstrate the relationship of Salvatore Ferragamo with the artists of the time, as the Futurist painter Lucio Venna, author of some advertising sketches and note label of Ferragamo footwear; others prove the continuous search of the perfect fit and the invention of special construction and the use of materials, from the famous cork “wedge”, patented in 1936 and immediately copied all the world, to the raffia uppers or cellophane, the paper for sweets, taken during the period of the Second World War. There are also shoes become famous because they have been created for Hollywood stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo and Audrey Hepburn.
The collection is enriched by the production of footwear after the Salvatore Ferragamo’s death until today. Every year, in fact, a number of representative models of the season become part of the Ferragamo’s archive, from which the museum draws for its exhibitions.
There is also a collection of drawings, wooden forms, documents and photographs of the artist.
The building that houses the museum is the Ferragamo Palace in Florence, the medieval Palazzo Spini Feroni, the historic seat of the company and its laboratory since 1938. It is located in the historic centre of Florence, in Piazza Santa Trinita 5 / R.
