The exhibition Picasso, Miró, Dalí in Florence focuses on the early works of these artists – three absolute protagonists of modern art – and will take place in Palazzo Strozzi from March 12 to July 17,2011.
The Hotel Brunelleschi is the ideal hotel to stay at on occasion of this exhibition. The Hotel is a four-star property located in the heart of Florence , in Via de’ Calzaiuoli and with a semicircular Byzantine tower facing a lovely tiny square. The Hotel is at walking distance from Palazzo Strozzi, within easy reach from the exhibition entrance and the main museums and monuments in Florence.
The exhibition Picasso, Miró, Dalí in Florence covers a long period going from Picasso’s Pre-Cubism (between 1900 and 1905) to the works by Dalì (from 1920 to 1925): the works are not immediately comparable as they respond to different styles and techniques, especially if we consider the 25 years between the beginning of Picasso’s career and the early works by Dalí. A comparison is of course easier to establish between the early works by Juan Miró, (datable between 1915 and 1920) and those by the Catalan artist; both of them will become the main representatives of Surrealism.

“Young and angry: the Birth of Modernity”
The title “Young and angry: the birth of modernity” gives an idea on the works exposed and on the spirit animating this exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi: more than 60 works, seldom exposed up to now and featuring the early period of the painters by investigating their artistic path so rich in suggestion.
The “early” Picasso is strongly influenced by his political ideals and openly supporting the improvement of the conditions for the working class, as you can see in the violent and cruel works in the magazine «Arte Joven» (which Picasso founded in Madrid) and that can be found in more than 100 sketches coming from the most important Spanish museums, from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and from private collections.

Catalonia is the land that hosted the artists in their first years of their careers, though Picasso and Mirò became famous in France, where they refused the figurative painting as expression of the dominating social classes and gave birth to Cubism.
The early connections among these artists inspired the exhibition Picasso, Miró, Dalí in Florence: like a movie rich in flashback, the exhibition aims at weaving the movements and the artistic paths of the three painters. The exhibition Picasso, Miró, Dalí in Florence starts from the end, from the year (1926) that sees the meeting between Dalí and Picasso and goes back in time by narrating the birth of modern art at the beginning of 20th century, when Picasso gathered his first sketches in the Cahier 7 (1907) or his revolutionary masterpieces Les Demoiselles d’Avignon.
