The annual International Competition, dedicated to the best plants of Iris, was born from an idea and passion of Flaminia Specht and Nita Stross Radicati. The Iris Garden in Florence was opened during 1957, after the conclusion of a project designed by architect Zetti. The Iris Garden in Florence, ten years later, in 1967, gained a touch of exoticism, thanks to the construction of a small lake in the lower part to accommodate the Japanese and Louisiana Iris. Today, the entire space is a particularly important insight from the scientific point of view, because it is an excellent reserve of germplasm of the genus Iris.
