Dante 2021 is the title that will represent all the celebrations for the 700 years since the death of Dante Alighieri.
The calendar of events in Florence to celebrate the Supreme Poet will be announced every month. In the meantime, various events involving the most important museums of Florence are already active and planned. There will be initiatives in the Florentine territory, throughout Italy and abroad, to celebrate the father of the Italian language.
The great exhibition “Dante. The vision of art” will be held in the spaces of the San Domenico Museums of Forlì from 12 March to 4 July 2021 and it is the result of a partnership between the Romagna Foundation and the Uffizi Galleries. The choice of location is part of a strategy to enhance Forlì as a dantesque city. Dante found refuge in Forlì after leaving Arezzo in the autumn of 1302, staying for over a year with the Ordelaffi, Ghibelline lords of the city. Moreover, Forlì is a natural bridge between Tuscany (Dante’s homeland) and Emilia-Romagna (in fact, his remains are in Ravenna). In occasion of the exhibition it will come from Florence: the portrait of Alighieri and that of Farinata degli Uberti by Andrea del Castagno, another portrait of Dante painted by Cristofano dell’Altissimo for the series commissioned by Cosimo I de’ Medici dedicated to illustrious men. There will be Pontormo’s Expulsion from Paradise and even a sublime drawing by Michelangelo that portrays a damned man in the Hell of the Divine Comedy, as well as a selection of highly prized drawings by Federico Zuccari for the sixteenth-century illustrated edition of the text. And then, the characters: a marble bust of Virgil, created by the eighteenth-century sculptor Carlo Albacini and the nineteenth-century canvas by the Tuscan proto-romantic Nicola Monti entitled “Francesca da Rimini in Hell” and many other works from other international museums.
While waiting for the exhibition, the Uffizi Galleries paid tribute to Dante Alighieri with a virtual exhibition “Not by fire but by divinity” which can always be visited at https://www.uffizi.it/mostre-virtuali/dante.

Dante’s museums and monuments in Florence
In Florence there are also many monuments symbolizing the history of Dante in Florence and artistic works that represent him, not to forget the guided tours carried out on his tracks in the historic centre of the city. Here are some examples:
The Dante’s House Museum in via Santa Margherita in Florence recently presented its new multimedia and interactive display, the result of a careful renovation and redesign of the museum itself in a modern way.
The Church of Santa Margherita dei Cerchi in Via Santa Margherita, better known as the Church of Dante and Beatrice, it is a must for all lovers who can leave love letters in a special basket. However, be careful not to read the cards of others because it seems that it brings bad luck in love!
The Church of Santa Croce houses the tombs of illustrious personalities and artists of the city but, since the remains of the Supreme Poet are in Ravenna, the city wanted to pay homage to him with an imposing statue that dominates in front of Piazza Santa Croce, in 1865 by Enrico Pazzi.
Our luxury hotel in the heart of Florence is at a short distance from the Church of Dante and Beatrice and the Casa di Dante Museum. Both monuments are located a few meters away from the hotel and they can be easily reached on foot through the streets of the historic centre, as shown in the map below.
Also at the Brunelleschi Hotel, we want to celebrate the year of Dante Alighieri in a particular way, through the “Dan Brown Experience”. Thanks to the guided tour “Inferno” included in the package, it will lead our guests to discover a particular itinerary in Florence, which will involve Robert Langdon, protagonist of the novel by the well-known American writer, and Dante Alighieri himself and the lines of his Divine Comedy.
